St. George's monastery

45 mins from the Villa Averoff, Evia

Built on the site of a temple to Apollo near Ilia, it has some very beautiful wall-paintings and it's built over a sanctuary that used to be dedicated to Apollo Helios. The byzantine Monastery of Agios Georgios also offers a unique view of the Gulf of Evia and contains sacred relics.
